At West Cobb Dentistry, we focus on restoring your natural teeth through high-tech and minimally-invasive dental crowns. Modern dental crowns are strong, durable, and look natural. They’re great option for fixing damaged teeth and restoring your smile.

How Do Crowns Work?
When tooth structure is badly damaged, a regular filling simply isn’t enough. The remaining tooth needs to be protected and restored. This helps it remain strong, beautiful, and healthy. Without a crown, you’ll eventually have to remove and replace the entire tooth with a bridge or an implant..

Dental crowns, or dental “caps,” cover the entirety of a natural tooth and fit at the base of your gum line. No matter if a tooth is suffering from extensive decay, cracks, or fractures, your dental crown will look (and feel) great!

With proper care, you won’t even know it’s there!

You’ve heard it said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure — but in dentistry, it’s worth a lot more. Left untreated, even small dental problems like cavities or tender gums can grow exponentially more critical, painful, and time consuming…not to mention expensive.

At West Cobb Dentistry, we use high-tech equipment and modern treatments like digital x-rays and computer software to detect and diagnose dental problems at their earliest stages. Working together, we’ll help keep your mouth healthy and make sure you maintain a beautiful smile for life.

April Awareness

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, the perfect time to see our Dentist for your Spring Cleaning. Not many are aware of this rare disease and in this year alone about 54,000 people will be diagnosed with Oral Cancer in the U.S. It kills one person every hour of every day and approximately 145 new people will be diagnosed by the end of today. The best news of all is that it can often be detected early through a simple, painless screening.

Every time you come see our hygienist for your cleaning you receive an oral cancer screening. Every adult needs to be screened. With early detection, the survival rates are high and the treatment’s side effects are low. Making your dental appointments a high priority also helps to keep your overall health a priority as well.

There have been two manners in which people come to develop oral cancer. One is through the use of tobacco and alcohol which historically has been a long term cause. The other known way is through exposure to HPV16 virus (human papillomavirus version 16), which is also responsible for the majority of cervical cancers found in women. Now, the quickest growing population to have oral cancer are the young, healthy, non-smokers due to the connection with this virus.

What you may see in your mouth:

• Red, white and/or black discolorations of the soft tissues of the mouth.
• A sore which does not heal within 14 days.
• A sore under a denture, which even after an adjustment of the denture, still does not heal.
• A lump or thickening which develops in the mouth or on the neck.

Symptoms you may experience:

• Hoarseness that lasts for prolonged period of time.
• A sensation that something is stuck in your throat.
• Numbness in the oral region.
• Difficulty in moving the jaw or tongue.
• Difficulty in swallowing.
• Ear pain which occurs on one side only.

You should receive an oral cancer screening at least once a year. Coming to our office every 6 months will provide you with at least two screenings per year. Call us today to schedule your Free Oral Cancer Screening. For more information about oral cancer, please visit the Oral Cancer Foundation’s.

Need A Filling For Your Cavity?

Composite white fillings offer the ability to effectively deal with cavities while maintaining the cosmetic appeal of a bright, white smile. At West Cobb Dentistry we offer a variety of restorative dentistry services.

Benefits of Composite White Fillings

  • Created to match your tooth to ensure a natural look and feel
  • Because composite fillings can be created for smaller restorations, less of your tooth structure is lost and less drilling is needed
  • The material is made from acrylic and glass particles, containing no mercury or other metals
  • Provides support to remaining tooth structure and insulates against temperature changes

The Filling Process

  • First, the targeted tooth is prepared by removing decay.
  • Next, a bonding agent is applied to the prepared tooth.
  • The composite material is placed and molded to your tooth structure.
  • The material is hardened by focusing intense light rays on it for about a minute (the time required may vary according to each patient’s needs and specific dental condition).
